X Factor winner Sam Bailey on course for Number One

Sam Bailey (X Factor 2013)

X Factor winner Sam Bailey is well on course to top the charts this weekend.

Her album The Power of Love has shifted over 15,000 copies already this week, 4,000 more than her nearest rival, reports Charts Update.

The release - timed just ahead of Mother's Day at the weekend, of course - is made up of covers from the show plus a handful original tracks, and also features both X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger and Sam's idol Michael Bolton.

If the record holds on to the top spot it'll be the first Number One album from an X Factor winner in FIVE years, with Alexandra Burke the last to manage it back in 2009 with her debut.

Sam, who will be doing album signings at HMV stores all week, seemed understandably excited about the release and tweeted on Monday: "MY ALBUM IS OUT TODAY.... GET YOURS FROM ALL GOOD RETAILERS.. SO EXCITED FOR YOU ALL TO HEAR IT XX"

Last week saw X Factor runner up Nicholas McDonald release his own album, In The Arms of An Angel, which sold over 11,000 copies to enter the charts at Number 6.

But while the album sold well his single sold fewer than 3,000 copies, charting outside of the Top 40 completely.

The full Top 40 midweek album and singles chart will be revealed this afternoon on BBC Radio One.
