Reports today suggest that X Factor boss Simon Cowell is in talks to get the singer on the ITV series.
It'd put in direct competition with bandmate Will.i.am, who is currently a coach on BBC singing contest The Voice UK.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper talks between producers and Fergie are still ongoing with no firm deal yet done.
"Both sides are keen to move things forward and people at the show and ITV are excited at the prospect of having Fergie," a supposed source told the tabloid. “She brings a lot to the show and her success globally with The Black Eyed Peas and her solo albums obviously speaks for itself.
"On top of that, she looks fantastic and fans love the glamour of the live shows.”
Speaking about her return last week, Cheryl declared she wanted a “strong woman” beside her on this year's X Factor panel, hitting back at reports claiming she was demanding to be the only female judge.
“There are people I’d love to join the panel. Definitely a strong woman,” the Fight For This Love hitmaker insisted. “I’m kind of hoping I don’t have to deal with three guys because otherwise I’ll have no hair — I’ll be pulling it out all the time!”
As it stands only Cheryl and Simon are confirmed for this year’s series with further judging line up announcements expecting in the next few weeks.
The X Factor UK auditions will begin with the open try outs next month before moving onto the judges’ auditions in the summer.
The X Factor will air on ITV in the autumn.
