Cheryl Cole is apparently refusing to return to The X Factor UK unless Dannii Minogue joins her.
It means that Nicole Scherzinger would have to go, with Simon Cowell also set to make a comeback alongside Louis Walsh.
The line up would be a return to the successful one last seen on air between 2008 and 2010, when the ITV series enjoyed some of its bumper ratings.
Bosses are said to have already been in talks with Cheryl, although no contracts have yet been signed.
“The contracts for the show will be drawn up and negotiated in March, but the plan is very much to bring back Cheryl," an insider claimed this week. “Simon and Cheryl had fantastic on-screen chemistry. It makes perfect sense to put them back together on-screen."
However the Daily Star newspaper reports today that Cheryl is holding out in order for Dannii to also agree to return.
The tabloid adds that Dannii hasn't ruled it out, saying that the Aussie popstar is "seriously considering" a comeback too.
A source said previously: "Dannii is still very popular in the UK and many people at ITV feel the return of Sharon Osbourne this year was positive and would like to do the same with Dannii."
It was reported yesterday that Nicole was unsure about returning to the panel after signing a new music deal worth £3 million.
“She’s torn between the two — she loves the show and loves working on it but is conflicted," a pal of the singer's told The Sun newspaper. “She is taking time out at home with her family to decide what move is best to make.”
The X Factor 2014 auditions will take place in the Spring.
