X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey says she won't try to be a 'popstar'

Sam Bailey (X Factor 2013)

X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey has said she hopes to fill a gap in the market with her debut album.

Sam, who won The X Factor 2013 in tonight's results, will release her first single tonight, a cover of Demi Lovato's Skyscraper.

But Sam told viewers to expect any future records and performances from her to be about the voice and not the production.

Following Katy Perry's woefully tuneless but beautiful stage show during the final, Sam said: "There's nobody out there like me at the moment and I want to fill that gap.

"I don't see myself as Beyonce or Rihanna. I'm going to prance around the stage with no clothes on; I just want to make people happy with my songs."

Sam was the odds-on front runner ahead of the final but admitted the pressure made her feel "uncomfortable".

She said: In the past front runners have been pipped at the post because people start voting for others. Rough Copy have said, 'Here comes the winner!' to me and it made me feel uncomfortable."

Meanwhile, speaking before the weekend, Sam said she was happy to have not compromised herself during the past ten weeks.
“The thing I am most proud of is that I have literally held my own on stage. I have not needed massive productions and airplanes going in the background,” Sam said in final video diary. “I have just gone out and sang my little heart out every week and thankfully it has gotten me into the final.”

The mum-of-two continued: “My achievements on the show just shows people, especially my kids, if you’ve got a dream and you go for it, anything can happen.

“You could be as lucky as I am.”
