The X Factor UK final 12 is taking shape, with Sharon Osbourne tonight revealing her final three overs.
In a tense judges' houses round, Joseph Whelan, Andrea Magee and Zoe Devlin were all sent home after singing for Sharon and Robbie Williams in LA.
This evening we saw Sharon tell an overjoyed female trio in the form of Lorna Simpson, Sam Bailey and Shelley Smith that they would all be making this year's live shows.
First through was 35-year-old Prison Officer Sam. When at work, Sam often finds herself singing when she is walking down the corridors. Previously, she has worked on cruise ships and has also performed at festivals.
Having devoted the past few years to her family and her job, Sam feels that this is her time to pursue her dream and to do something for herself for once.
She reacted: “I feel so lucky to be chosen for the live shows as there is so much talent this year. I didn't think I would make it this far at all. I am excited about the impact of my new style on the audience; I can’t wait to show them more of my voice and what I can do. I’m not just a ballad singer; I’m somebody that can sing any style – even opera.”
Lorna has been a bit of a dark horse in this year's series, but believes that she has star quality and aspires to be as big as Mariah Carey and Beyonce. She dreams to sell millions of records and wants to show the world what she’s made of.
“When I learnt I was through to live shows, I experienced so much joy and happiness at once; it was the best day of my life so far. Sharon believed in me enough and I'd worked hard to hear those words... You’re in my top 3!" Lorna said. “I'm most ecstatic about the fact I'm not going to be the one sitting at home wishing it was me! I get to live up that moment in week one belting out a huge popular 80s song, and pouring out my heart while getting some real pop dance moves on.”
Completing Sharon's Overs is white van driver Shelley. 34-year-old single mum Shelley lives in a small village in Devon with her seven year old daughter Madeline.
Shelley made it to Bootcamp in both 2008 and 2012 and this year she wowed the judges and the audience in her arena audition getting a standing ovation from both. Shelley feels that the pressure is on for her to continue doing well, in order to change hers and her daughter’s life for the better.
She said: “I’m overwhelmed to be in the live shows and feel unbelievably proud that Mrs O sees something and believes in me. I was so shocked when she chose me. Apart from having Madeline, it was the best day of my life so far. It's been such a roller coaster for me this year and I'm happy that The X factor has given me an opportunity to shine. I can’t wait to work with all of the vocal coaches to bring out the best of me.”
