Jayson Newland has claimed he was booted off The X Factor only to make good telly.
The singer was a shock exit at bootcamp over the weekend, singing Higher Love at Wembley Arena.
While the panel seemed to like the performance, Over 25s mentor Sharon decided not to take Jayson through to judges' houses.
“I performed the whole song but it ended very sharply which was a bit of a shock," Jayson recalled. “Louis Walsh's comments were completely missed out as he said he, 'liked my style,' he felt like I was a star in the making. He also made a comment saying I was not just good I was 'world class'.”
He told the Daily Mirror today: "I feel that my exit from X Factor was used as the shock factor. I had a lot of people including Gary, Louis and Nicole rooting for me.
“My feedback was amazing and everyone thought I was going to get a seat. As you could hear from the audience reaction, Sharon's decision was not taken seriously. It almost didn't make sense at the time but it makes sense now. Shock factor!”
But despite his exit, Jayson's not too upset with either Sharon or the show.
“I have a lot if respect for Sharon but I would of loved to have Louis Walsh [as a mentor]. Sharon and him had a big disagreement over her sending me home," he added to the newspaper. “Louis has been the only consistent judge on the X Factor panel.
“He's had years of experience so I would have loved him to get my category. But everything happens for reason!”
An ITV source commented: "Contestants are chosen on merit and their performance."
The X Factor 2013 continues Saturday and Sunday nights on ITV.
