A dramatic new bootcamp twist on The X Factor 2013 saw plenty of tears during the weekend.

This year the bootcamp format has seen a major revamp, with the judges' having been given their categories just after the auditions.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, each category in turn went before all of the judges, but while they each offered comments, only the mentor of the category decided who went through to judges' houses.

And in a twist, rather than waiting until everyone had performed, decisions were made on stage straight after each act had sung.

If it was a yes, the lucky singer went to sit in one of six chairs by the side of the stage, but if it was no, it was all over.

But even getting a yes didn't guarantee you were safe as producers revealed another new change.

Once all six spaces have been filled, the judges have a tough choice when it came to deciding the fate of those who had not yet performed.

If they wanted to put another act through, it would mean kicking out one of the six who had previously been given a yes.

It was a decision that wasn't taken lightly, and when it did, caused plenty of tears.

It's sure to make for great telly when the bootcamp stages air later in the autumn.

The X Factor starts later this year on ITV.
