The Spice Girls singer has denied she'll be joining the show, but new reports claim there are once again talks with bosses.
And it comes despite the former X Factor Australia judge moving to America's Got Talent.
The schedules mean that Mel could take part in both shows, similar to Dannii Minogue who appeared on Australia's Got Talent at the same time as The X Factor.
A source told The Sun newspaper today: “She’s kept dialogue going with Simon and he hasn’t ruled out bringing her over.
“He loved her bitching and thinks that she could help lift the show.”
Producers are apparently keen to get Mel on the show after her successful stint as a guest judge at auditions last year.
Mel appeared alongside Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa at try outs in Mancester.
A source said: "Mel did fantastically and proved a big draw on the ratings front.
"She is just what the show needs to liven it up – fresh, bolshy and opinionated – and Simon is a big fan.
“Mel is also Northern which, although it sounds ridiculous, has proved important with audiences up north.
"An initial deal has been agreed – it’s now a case of trying to make Mel’s AGT schedule fit around the X Factor.”
