X Factor 2012 winner James Arthur has secured the first number one single of 2013.
His winner's song Impossible sold almost a further 150,000 copies this week to go back to the top spot, after missing out on last week's Christmas number one.
It means James will be top of the charts as we move into the new year, and the song shows few signs of slowing down.
James tweeted this evening: “I’m number 1 again? Sweet!! Thanks must go to you sick individuals who bought it! And I mean sick in a good way! #LOVE #Whatayear xxx”
The Official Charts Company reports that the song has already eclipsed the total sales of Leona Lewis' A Moment Like This, Joe McElderry’s The Climb, One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful, JLS’ Beat Again, Little Mix’s Cannonball and Olly Murs’ Please Don’t Let Me Go.
The song is quickly catching up with the remaining winner's singles - Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah (1.2 million), Shayne Ward’s That’s My Goal (1.1 million) and Matt Cardle’s When We Collide (1 million) - to become the biggest selling X Factor debut yet.
Meanwhile in the charts, The Justice Collective’s He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother falls from the top spot to number five, while former X Factor finalist Olly Murs and Flo Rida’s Troublemaker is at number four.
