X Factor 'doesn't need' Cheryl Cole, says Dermot O'Leary

Dermot O'Leary (X Factor 2012)

X Factor host Dermot O'Leary has admitted he's not sure Cheryl Cole or Sharon Osbourne are needed to save the show.

It's been claimed over the last few weeks that bosses are keen to refresh much of the panel for next year's tenth series.

But Dermot reckons that the format doesn't need panel changes every year, despite recent declines in ratings.

He explained: "Two years ago it was just me and Louis, and Cheryl had gone to the X Factor USA. I honestly though to myself, 'I have no idea how we're going to make this I'm really worried.'

"And what it proved last year is that the format is so robust.

"I love Sharon Osbourne, too - she was so supportive of me and so helpful. But we can't have 12 judges!"

The good news for Dermot is that it's unlikely to happen, with Cheryl rubbishing the tabloid reports.

Speaking on the Graham Norton show with her Girls Aloud bandmates, Cheryl said of a possible X Factor return: “It’s a definite ‘no’”

Sources previously suggested X Factor boss Simon Cowell had invited Cheryl to ‘name her price’ to get her back on the series, after falling ratings this year.

Now it's been claimed that Simon wants Rihanna to save the X Factor!
