Dermot O'Leary has said it would be great to see Simon Cowell back on the show as a fifth judge.
It was reported recently that bosses were considering making Simon a fifth panel member next year, independent of the acts.
The change would allow Simon to fly back and forth to the US series, and also do away with deadlock results.
Dermot said: "I don't think Simon can come back [full time], because he's on The X Factor USA now.
"When he's here, it's brilliant, but when he's not here, it's not like he's gone to Mars. He's always contactable and he's 100 per cent across the show."
Dermot added: "Would I live him to come back from time o time? Yes, 100% I would! It would be great."
Dermot also said he wanted to see the return of Louis Walsh for what would be his tenth series on the show next year.
Dermot said of the Irish telly judge: "As much as it can be annoying when he says the sane thing every week, I honestly don't think we can make the show without Louis.
"You could never really embarrass him. He just doesn't worry. He doesn't care about being the butt of the jokes and that's what I love about him. I adore Louis, he's brilliant. I'd devastated if we didn't have Louis."
