X Factor winner James Arthur refuses to release an album of covers

James Arthur (X Factor 2012)

X Factor winner James Arthur has warned bosses he'll refuse to release any music that isn't his own.

We assume of course this excludes his winner's single, a cover of Shontelle's Impossible which is currently heading for number one.

Speaking on This Morning yesterday about his debut album, James said: "I think you’re going to get a really honest piece of work.”

The XFactor champ revealed he wanted to get out his record as soon as possible, saying he had already written a lot of songs.

“I’ve got a lot to say, I’ve got a lot of lyrics, I have songs that I have accumulated over the years about my journey in life, so I guess you will get a bit of a story and some nice melodies and something that’s easy on the ears hopefully," he explained.

Confident he'll be avoiding the male winner's curse, James added: "I will definitely be having control over everything that happens, I will have creative control and artistic licence. If that’s not the case then I wouldn’t put anything out that I wouldn’t believe in."

Speaking on Daybreak yesterday, James said: “The statistics about people winning the X Factor I am not going to take much notice of.

"I’m not going to do much waiting around - I’ve got a lot of material ready to go now and as soon as I can get in the studio I will get my stuff out and it will be all of my own material.”
