X Factor winner James Arthur tipped to miss Xmas number one spot

James Arthur (X Factor 2012)

James Arthur is the second favourite to land this year's Christmas number one according to Ladbrokes.

He might be the newly crowned King of X Factor but it looks like he won't win the race to the festive top spot as he's the current second favourite at 3/1, with the Hillsborough Charity Single odds-on at 1/3 to reach number one.

James released his winner's single - a cover of impossible by Shonetelle - on Sunday night and is already on course to hit the top spot this weekend.

But while the bookies don't see James holding on for a second week to grab the Xmas number one, they do see him having plenty more success than other male winners.

James is quoted at just 2/1 to bag a number one single next year and it's a 4/1 chance his album follows suit. Runner up Jahmene is a 6/1 shot to have a single topping the charts in 2013 as well.

Despite heading in to part one of the final as joint favourites James's payout to punters has cost the firm well over £500,000.

And although there's speculation mounting over the judges' future all four are odds-on to return again for another series, but it's also just a 6/4 chance that Simon Cowell returns to the UK show.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "James's performances this weekend haven't left us feeling good as he's cost us a fortune. Although the odds suggest he'll miss out on the Xmas No.1 we're sure he'll get his hands on the top spot next year."
