X Factor 2012: James Arthur's winner's single - will it be a hit?

James Arthur (X Factor 2012)

James Arthur's X Factor winner's single will be Impossible by Shontelle.

With Christopher Maloney finishing in third place on last night's XFactor 2012 results, it's left James Arthur and Jahmene to go head to head on tonight's final.

Tonight will see the pair both performing their potential winner's singles on the show as they compete for votes.

This year both finalists have again recorded different tracks, and we can't help but feel like James has got the rough end of the stick with his song. We're quite interested to see what Jame does with the song and can't wait to hear his performance tonight.

It's the third time bosses have tried to release the track by an X Factor winner, with Leona Lewis and Cher Lloyd both previously recording it.

If James the song will be released right away to download, but can it get to number one?

James previously claimed he was confident he would break the male winner's curse by putting out an album full of his own material.

“I find the statistics [of past male winners] ridiculous,” James said. “But the blokes that have won before haven’t sold records because they haven’t made great albums.

“That’s the bottom line. If me or Jahmene win, the albums will be good and they will sell.

“There’s creative control this year, and we haven’t had to compromise our styles.”

This year the winner's single is for charity, which can certainly only help.

Syco will donate 100% of its profits from the sale of each CD single and download to Together for Short Lives (Registered Charity No: 1144022). This is expected to be at least £1 for each CD and 20p for each download.

Simon Cowell, who has worked closely with Together For Short Lives for many years, said: “Together for Short Lives is such an inspiring and important charity for so many kids and their families who really need help and support.

“These hospices are really happy and positive places and are a complete lifeline for so many families. Having worked with this charity for many years I have been able to see first hand how they have impacted so many lives, and I’m delighted that The X Factor’s winner single sales will go directly to helping them.”
