X Factor boss Simon Cowell has vowed to back Christopher Maloney if he wins the show.
It was previously claimed that Simon was keen to dump Chris within three months if the Liverpudlian wins the record contract prize in this month's final.
An industry insider told the Daily Star: “Simon doesn’t think he fits in with Syco’s current image.
"He’s found a loophole in the contract which means he can dump Chris within weeks, even if he wins."
The source explained to the the tabloid: “They’ll shift him to an in-house sister label, possibly Epic, and then drop him for good after 12 months.
“Simon has his eye on the more bankable acts – James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas. Syco has never signed three acts from a series before, so losing Chris quickly is the best option.”
Taking to Twitter yesterday, Simon said Sony would be fully behind whoever won the show in next weekend's final.
Although we reckon Simon has everything crossed it won't be Chris!
He tweeted: “On the uk show I do have a favourite but its your vote that determines the winner. Whoever wins will get the backing of Sony."
And Simon added: “I do think the us and uk finals are going to be close and that makes it more exciting. Especially if a group wins the us show!”
The X Factor 2012 live shows continue tonight on ITV1 and ITV1HD with the final four acts singing songs that they hope will get them into the final.
On Sunday's results show, one more act get the axe and there will be performances from Pink and Tulisa.
