X Factor bosses coy over Simon Cowell return next year

X Factor bosses have remained coy about a possible return of Simon Cowell to next year's series.

In a statement, they joked that they had no idea whether or not Simon would be back, and probably wouldn't know his plans until the day before auditions start!

Last year saw the new line up of judges, which then included Kelly Rowland, only meeting for the first time in Birmingham ahead of the first try outs.

In a statement read out on This Morning earlier in the week, X Factor chiefs said: "We're focusing on this series, no decisions have been made about next year's series until further down the line.

"There's always speculation about Simon Cowell coming back. We haven't heard anything but we always find out the day before."

Current X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger recently said she didn't want to see Simon back on the series, having worked with him on the first US season last year.

Nicole said: “I don’t want to see Simon come back. I think we’ve got a good family and Tulisa, Gary and Louis are all holding their own.

“Simon has got his own thing going on in the US and I know the US embrace and love him.”

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Nicole continued: “When I left the US X Factor it was because the elimination process was really hard for me.

“Every Sunday I would lose my sparkle and get kind of upset. But I’ve come back a lot stronger this year.”

She explained: “On the UK show I get to be myself more and people allow me to express myself.

“The British people give me confidence.

“People here are bonkers so it makes me feel I can be bonkers too.”

Speaking on the show, Caroline Flack said that Simon was still "excited" about the show, despite Christopher Maloney still being in the series.

The music mogul had begged with viewers before last weekend's live performances to vote for of the acts who would become stars, in a unsubtle dig at the cruise ship singer.

The X Factor 2012 continues this weekend on ITV1 and ITV1HD with the final four acts singing songs that they hope will get them into the final.

On Sunday's results show, one more act get the axe and there will be performances from Pink and Tulisa.
