Xtra Factor host Olly Murs has revealed he was so nervous about joining the show that he turned to drink last year.
The former X Factor finalist was a surprise choice to front the show alongside Caroline Flack.
And Olly admitted he could only go out live on the show after drinking, leading him to become depressed.
“Last year I was down a bit – I was happy in some ways but also quite depressed," he said today. “I had my album coming out and I was starting on Xtra Factor for the first time and I was getting panicky about everything.
“I didn’t know if anything was going to go well. It could have all flopped.”
Olly, who releases his new single Troublemaker this week, continued: “I was going on TV shows and drinking. I was downing three or four drinks before going on to do the performance and even when I was doing interviews.”
The singer explained: “It was doing live TV that made me most scared.
“I was worried about what people would say about me in the papers and what people would be saying on Twitter.
“I was nervous that everyone would say ‘Olly Murs is crap – why is he doing live TV?’.”
Fortunately, Olly proved something of a hit on the series and was invited back this year... unlike Konnie Huq!
The Xtra Factor airs straight after the main show on ITV2 on Saturdays and Sundays.
