XFactor 2012: Gary Barlow defends Chris Maloney: 'He's not killed anyone!'

Gary Barlow has defended his last remaining act Christopher Maloney, after the Liverpudlian once again came under attack on The X Factor tonight.

Chris performed Abba by Fernando this evening but was slated by the panel.

Nicole Scherzinger remarked: "That was a lovely theatrical piece, it was very beautiful. Very good vocals, but it was a little bit of a snoozer for me... but you work really hard and that’s what I ask for."

Louis Walsh added: "It was like something from Abba the musical, all those guys had their tops off... I’m just glad you kept yours on!"

And Tulisa complained: "The staging was creepy, I didn’t understand why you were surrounded by people in their swimwear, I didn’t get it."

Speaking on the Xtra Factor, Gary insisted: "Chris is a guy from Liverpool who's singing on a talent show, [the criticism] is like he killed somebody. Give him a break for God's sake."

He added: "He works so hard every week, every time I see him he's practicing. He's grown so much as a vocalist, I'm so proud of him."

However Tulisa admitted she was hoping Chris would be in the bottom two tomorrow.

She said: "After last week I can't call it, it's impossible. In my view I would say Christopher [in the bottom two] but I don't think he will because people will vote for him."

Asked why she thought people were voting for Chris, Tulisa said: "I think it's a combination of things, he has a very good voice, and also his story and being Liverpool's champion. I think that's why."
