X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly fearing Christopher Maloney winning the show.
Christopher is now the third favourite to win the show, and is one of only two acts to have avoided the bottom two so far.
The Liverdpulian singer was voted into the live final as a wild card and looks set to make it all the way through to the final.
Both The X Factor judges and acts have been vocal about Chris' apparent backstage attitude, but Simon is apparently more concerned about his record selling potential.
A source said: "Simon is worried he could be left with a Steve Brookstein-style embarrassment if Chris wins.
"He's not confident Chris would be a global star and thinks there is far more deserving talent. he desperately wants people to vote sensibly."
Chris however hit back at the rumours about Simon Cowell recently.
He said: "I don't really care what he thinks.
"It seems like underhand tactics are being used to paint a false picture of me and sway the public vote."
Meanwhile, Chris' mentor Gary Barlow has also defended the former cruise ship singer.
The Take That star said: “If people are out there voting for him, there’s clearly people out there who will buy his albums."
In an interview with the official ITV1 website, Gary added: “He’s had the most criticism out of everybody. I only know what I see. For me, he’s really easy to work with. Whenever I’m around him, he’s the loveliest, sweetest man ever.
“I think he’s managed it brilliantly. If these things were being said about me, I’d be cursing and lashing out. I really admire how he’s taken the negative things being said about him in his stride. I really respect that.”
The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday on ITV1 and ITV1HD, with the final five acts sing two tracks each with Abba and Motown themes.
Sunday's results show will see one more act get the axe, and there will be performances from Rhianna, Tulisa and Bruno Mars.
