One Direction are most popular X Factor act ever (apparently)

One Direction tour

One Direction have been named the most popular X Factor act ever, even eclipsing Leona Lewis.

According to social media data, the boys are the most talked about act to even come from the show.

A survey by media analysts Starcount found that One Direction scored a 117.5 MILLION points in their poll, based on things like twitter mentions, 'likes' on Facebook and YouTube/Vevo views.

It was almost four times that of second placed Leona Lewis, with 27.8 million points.

And not far behind Leona, surprisingly, is Cher Lloyd.

Despite only finishing fourth on the show in 2010, Cher has gone on to have success both here in the UK and the States.

Last year's champions Little Mix had 9.7 million points in fourth place, which bodes well ahead of their debut album release next month.

Amelia Lily, Misha B, Jedward and Rebecca Ferguson were all also in the top 10.

Meanwhile, it's been claimed that On Direction have made £26.33 million between them since 2010.

The boys have been placed fifth on a list of the UK's richest teenage celebs, as compiled by heat magazine.

With a new album and tour soon, that number is only sure to rise.

The current series of The X Factor continues this Saturday night with a spooky Halloween themed episode as the remaining ten contestants perform live once again.

The latest results show follows on Sunday, which will feature performances from Fun. and Robbie Williams, as well as one more act being given the boot.

Will any of this year's lot be able to out perform One Direction in the years to come?
