X Factor 2012: Union J want One Direction comparisons to stop

Union J (X Factor 2012)

X Factor stars Union J have said they want comparisons with One Direction to stop.

Discussing the topic on the Xtra Factor tonight, the boys said: "We get compared to One Direction which is amazing because they're incredible, but we don't want to keep getting more comparisons as we want to put our own stamp on things, we want to focus on being us."

Speaking about the comparisons previously, the group said: “It’s quite a big responsibility we have to take on. Now we’ve been compared to them, if we don’t get anywhere near that success, then we’re just going to feel stupid.”

They added: “We’re not really like them. I think it’s just because we’re a boyband and we’ve done X Factor and we’ve almost been put together by the X Factor. I think that’s the only thing.”

Louis Walsh agreed with the group, saying he was confident there was room for both Union J and One Direction in the charts.

“There’s always room for a new boyband,” he said. “You’ve got The Wanted, JLS, One Direction… there’s always room if they are good enough.”

The Irish music mogul added to Xtra Factor hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs on Saturday evening: “I think I’ve got two great boy bands.

“I think District3 have come back into the race tonight. I believe there’s room if they’re good enough and they work hard.”

The X Factor 2012 continues next Saturday night with a spooky Halloween themed episode as the remaining ten contestants perform live once again.

The latest results show follows on Sunday when one more act will be given the boot.
