X Factor star James Arthur has reportedly threatened to quit the show twice.
The 25-year-old apparently asked to leave the competition following last weekend's panic attack, admitting that the pressure was getting to him.
Now mentor Nicole Scherzinger is said to be "deeply worried" about the singer, despite his top notch vocal performances on the live shows.
The Daily Mirror reports that US singer Nicole has been giving James round the clock support to keep him on the series and focused.
A source told the newspaper: "James is being a trouper and has vowed to carry on but he nearly went at least twice. He is really struggling with it all. He has been finding it exceptionally difficult to deal with the fame, performing on such a big scale and the change in his life."
The supposed X Factor insider added to the newspaper at the weekend: "Nicole has been concerned and has been making sure that she keeps a close eye on him and talking to him very regularly. She knows what a star he is and wants him to stay in the competition.
"He's one of the most talented people on the show. James had a really, really tough week but is doing everything he can to make sure that he is giving himself the best chance at being able to stay in the competition and get as far as he can."
James showed no signs of pressure on the X Factor at the weekend, with his cover of LMFAO's Sexy And I Know It winning rave reviews from the show's judges.
Take That's Gary Barlow told him: "It's a silly dance song but you gave those lyrics meaning tonight.
"This wasn’t the performance of the night, it was the performance of the series so far."
The X Factor continues next Saturday and Sunday night on ITV1.
