X Factor judge Louis Walsh has insisted that Union J can compete with One Direction.
The boys tonight wowed the judges with a cover of Kelly Rowland's When Love Takes Over.
Louis said: “Guys, it’s working, the image is coming together. The public love this band and this band has a big future!”
Gary Barlow added: “I think we’re witnessing the birth of a new boy band here."
Speaking on Xtra Factor, the group's mentor Louis was confident that there was a market for Union J after the show.
"There's always room for a new boyband," he said. "You've got The Wanted, JLS, One Direction... there's always room if they are good enough."
The Irish music mogul added to Xtra Factor hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs this evening: "I think I've got two great boy bands.
"I think District3 have come back into the race tonight. I believe there's room if they're good enough and they work hard."
District3 certainly did seem to have the edge tonight, with their cover of Beggin' winning over all of the judges'.
But will it keep them out of the tomorrow two tomorrow night?
