X Factor: Jahmene Douglas wants to use fame to campaign against domestic violence

Jahmene Douglas (X Factor 2012)

X Factor 2012 Jahmene Douglas has revealed he wants to use his new found fame to campaign against domestic violence.

In an emotional interview today, the shy singer revealed how his dad was jailed for rape and assaulting his mother.

According to The Sun, the 21-year-old's father Eustace Douglas was sentenced to nine years in jail in 2003 for GBH and six years for rape, when James was 11.

A source told the newspaper: “His dad was a nasty piece of work and terrorised the family. It’s no wonder Jahmene is shy and has had confidence issues.”

However Jahmene was keen not to dwell on the past.

“Our struggles are what make us stronger and I hope I can become an inspiration to those still suffering," he said. “I’m still here and happy. Don’t let anyone take your happiness.”

He added to tabloid this morning: “Only you know what’s best for you and your family but speak out and reach out.”

The more we hear from Jahmene both on and off the stage, the more we fall in love with him!
