Over 230,000 people have signed a petition to reinstate Carolyne Poole into The X Factor 2012.
The 32-year-old was the first star to be booted out of the show last weekend in a controversial deadlock decision.
And some viewers have claimed that judge Louis Walsh failed to ever give host Dermot O'Leary a decision, first saying he wanted to save Carolynne and then saying he wanted to take it to deadlock. At no point did Louis actually say who he was sending home, as Dermot had requested.
More than 2,300 have complained to TV watchdog Ofcom over the result, who are considering launching an investigation.
Carolynne's loss seemed to impact the show this weekend, with viewers down on last Saturday's performance show.
And in news that's sure to upset Simon Cowell, Strictly Come Dancing beat the ITV1 series by over a million viewers in their clash yesterday.
Speaking about last weekend's deadlock drama, Gary admitted that the fix allegations had damaged the show's reputation.
“There should be no one up on that stage with us, it shouldn’t happen. I’ve told them that I do not want it to happen again and it won’t on my watch,” Gary said.
He continued: “No one tells me what to do… not even Simon.
“It gets to me because it follows me around all week. After what happened, I thought, ‘I don’t want to do this any more, this isn’t the way I imagined it to be’… the singer who did the worst stayed.”
A spokesperson for The X Factor insisted: “Carolynne had the least amount of public votes. Producers always chat to judges during the show.”
