The mum of X Factor star Lucy Spraggan has hit out at the youngster's critics.
Lucy's mum Anstey Spraggan told the Daily Mail that she was worried about how 20-year-old Lucy would cope on the series and the pressure of celebrity life.
"The internet can be vicious, and there is widespread resentment towards The X Factor singers," she claimed. "I don’t want Lucy to read what’s on there but I know that’s unrealistic so I’ve made her promise she won’t get upset over tweets, posts or comments unless they are properly spelled and grammatically correct. I reckon that will eliminate more than 90 per cent of them."
Writing for the newspaper, Anstey revealed that even some of Lucy's family friends haven't been too kind about her success on the series.
"Some of our own friends have been critical of Lucy even appearing on the show. One said, ‘How sad, I can’t believe she’d stoop that low’," she said.
But despite the negatives and the hate from some parts of the internet, Lucy's mum couldn't be more proud.
She added: "Overall, X Factor is a positive experience. There’s an immense joy in having the world discover something you have always known — that your child has a talent."
The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
