X Factor 2012: Dermot O'Leary, Caroline Flack defend results show

Dermot O'Leary and Caroline Flack have both defended yesterday's X Factor results, which saw Carolynne Poole exit.

Last night saw the first live X Factor results show, after all the finalists had performed for the first time on Saturday night.

Rylan Clark and Carolynne were in the bottom two, with the judges deciding to send the result to a deadlock, which saw Carolynne leave.

However much was made about Louis' decision, which was changed after he was spotted speaking to a producer during Carolynne's performance.

Caroline Flack recalled today: "I have never felt an atmosphere like that in The X Factor studio before, ever. It was very tense.”

But she insisted that it was all fair: "I can’t speak for Louis and say why he made up his mind and why he made his decision, but the producers do speak to the judges throughout the show.

"It’s a live TV show, we all have ear pieces but the judges don’t. They need to be told what’s going on. If there is a technical fault, if something is running over they have to be aware. That is what happens.”

Dermot O'Leary meanwhile defended his actions, after seeming to ignore Louis' original wish to save Carolynne.

He tweeted after the show last night: "Weird show. For those asking I have ask who the judges are sending home, not save. Straight question. Been like that's for 9 years! [sic]"

The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
