James Arthur will sing his own tracks on The X Factor 2012 in future, his mentor Nicole Scherzinger has claimed.
Following his performance of Stronger by Kelly Clarkson on Saturday, James was told by Gary: “I want to give you a bit of advice, you came with bags of intensity, retain it. I can see the edges being rubbed off.”
He added: “Your song choice usually shocks me. I would have expected you to sing that song.”
Speaking on Xtra Factor afterwards, Gary continued his remarks, telling Olly Murs and Caroline Flack that he missed James’ guitar.
He said: “I feel like he’s had a little bit of a makeover and I want that old guy back. I want James back as he was.”
On Xtra Factor last night, after James was saved by the public vote, Nicole revealed she would be letting James perform his own tracks in future.
“Absolutely, James really wants to sing one of his own songs," she revealed.
The former Pussycat Doll told Xtra Factor hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack: “I was proud last night that he stepped out of his comfort zone and he did a Kelly Clarkson song and was still able to do his thing to it.
"He added his own authenticity to it but I can’t wait for that moment.”
The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
