X Factor 2012: Union J pleased to be saved by the public

Union J (X Factor 2012)

X Factor 2012 boy group Union J have thanked their fans after being saved from the first public vote.

Last night saw the first X Factor results, after all the finalists had performed for the first time on Saturday night.

Rylan Clark and Carolynne were in the bottom two, with the judges deciding to send the result to a deadlock, which saw Carolynne leave.

The bottom two was quite a surprise, with the bookies predicting that all of the groups could be in trouble.

And even Louis Walsh told his acts to expect to find themselves in the bottom two.

“We really thought we were going. I know everyone thinks they’re going but we were convinced all day. Last night we didn’t feel it was the best we could do and we didn’t think people would get behind us but we’re so happy they have," the boys said on the Xtra Factor last night.

And they revealed: “When we were on stage we were so nervous, our hearts were pounding. Louis thought one of the groups were going this week as well. It wasn’t very comforting.”

Asked when when Louis decided to give them the news, MK1's Charlie told Caroline Flack and Olly Murs: “Backstage just before the doors opened.”

The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
