X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow admits Carolynne Poole 'didn't connect with viewers'

Gary Barlow (The X Factor 2012)

Gary Barlow has admitted that Carolynne Poole failed to connect with viewers after yesterday's shock exit.

Last night saw the first X Factor results, after all the finalists had performed for the first time on Saturday night.

Rylan Clark and Carolynne were in the bottom two, with the judges deciding to send the result to a deadlock, which saw Carolynne leave.

"For some reason she didn’t connect with viewers," Gary Barlow confessed on the Xtra Factor last night.

However he admitted he was convinced Carolynne would stay after her save me song, a cover of a Faith Hill track.

He told Xtra Factor hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack: "When she was in the middle of her song I thought ‘thank God for this, at least she’ll be back next week.’

"She sang her heart out. I kind of wish she’d sang something like that last night now.”

Asked why he felt Carolynne had received the fewest votes, Gary suggested: “You know what, who knows why we lost Carolynne.

"She wanted to do something different. She could have done that last night but she wanted to give the girls a run for their money and strut round the stage and be a diva and I thought she was great. She gave a great performance.”

The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
