Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger have defended sending home Carolynne Poole over Rylan Clark.
Last night the pair opted to save Rylan over Carolynne, with Gary Barlow and Tulisa choosing to save Carolynne.
The result therefore went to deadlock, where it was revealed that Carolynne had received the least amount of votes and would be leaving the show.
Speaking on Xtra Factor last night after the controversial result, Louis said: "I wanted to see who got the least amount of votes.”
“It was a tough one as Rylan is so entertaining but she sang her heart out there [in the sing off]," Louis said.
He added: "“It was the right thing... She got the least amount of votes.”
Meanwhile Nicole claimed she was "surprised" that Rylan was in the bottom two.
She told Olly Murs and Caroline Flack: “I am honestly surprised I can’t believe he was in the bottom two. To me he has his own X Factor and he is a star in his own right. He is a performer and entertainer and the show needs him.”
The former Pussycat Doll star continued: “It’s about more than just the voice, it’s the entire package.
"There are a lot of shows out there that are similar to this one, that are all about the voice. This is about the voice and the entire package, that sparkle, that entertainment factor, that something that makes you want to get up on your feet and escape to another place and last night we went to Egypt for a second."
The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.
