X Factor 2012: Ella Henderson's Rule The World leads iTunes chart sales

Ella Henderson (The X Factor 2012)

Ella Henderson's cover of Rule The World topped sales on iTunes after last night's first X Factor 2012 performance.

This year, like last year, every live performance on the X Factor will be released online for download straight after the show.

Last year the songs weren't able to chart and did not show up on iTunes, to stop showing which artists were the most popular.

However this evening we were able to see the track's positions amongst the iTunes chart revealed for the first live show, with Ella Henderson leading the way at 29.

Her cover of Take That's Rule The World was the highest ranking track of all of the finalists just two hours after the show finished.

Lucy Spraggan's only track Mountains was at 2nd (46th in the overall iTunes chart) while James was third (79 overall).

Also doing well with their covers were Jahmene Douglas, Kye Sones and Carolynne Poole.

Jade Ellis, Melanie Masson and Christopher Maloney all had their tracks in the top 100 too.

However there was bad news for the groups, with District3, MK1 and Union J all bottom - and in the 900s of the overall iTunes chart.

Will the chart figures match the outcome in this weekend's results?

The X Factor 2012 live shows continue tonight on ITV1 at 8PM with the first results show, featuring performances from Ne-Yo and Leona Lewis.
