X Factor 2012: GMD3 confirm District3 name change!

District3 (X Factor 2012)

X Factor 2012 finalists GMD3 have confirmed they have changed their name to Ditrict3.

The group’s previous GMD3 name is formed from their names Greg, Micky and Dan

Speaking to the judges on stage about their name at their audition, the group explained: “It’s just our initials… and then there are three of us too.”

“That’s clever, I like it!” laughed Gary Barlow.

However at judges’ houses, Louis Walsh’s celeb mentor Sharon Osbourne wasn’t too keen, saying that the name sounded like a virus!

Chatting to the official ITV1 X Factor website, District3 revealed earlier this week: “We’ve been dying to change our name for ages. People forget it and often confuse it with GMTV!

“We’d really love our fans and twitter followers to help us out by sending in their ideas for names. If there’s a suggestion we like, we’ll use it.”

Appearing on This Morning earlier yesterday, Louis Walsh said: “We kind of like this name District3, District3 could be the new name.”

And the reason?

He admitted, as only Louis does: “Because it’s not registered!”

The boys confirmed the name change on Twitter today, with their name @District3 account now active.
