X Factor 2012: Nicole: 'I chose Rylan Clark to please Simon Cowell'

Rylan Clark (X Factor 2012)

X Factor 2012 judge Nicole Scherzinger has claimed that choosing Rylan Clark for the live shows will please Simon Cowell.

The former Pussycat Doll singer chose Rylan, Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur on last Sunday night's show to compete in the live finals.

"I like to think of myself as an artist ambassador. I like to get down into the trenches and roll my sleeves up," Nicole told The Sun abut the decisions.

She claimed: “I must be making Simon Cowell proud because controversy is his favourite word. I chose Rylan because the show is about having the X Factor and he has the X Factor.”

Nicole went on: "It is not just a singing show. Rylan has already said he is not trying to be Whitney Houston or a big ballad singer — he wants to be a dance artist. Having the X Factor is about having your own sparkle and he has got the spikes to go with it.”

And Nicole revealed she was prepared to fight Rylan's corner against Gary Barlow, who has been very vocal about his annoyance that the 23-year-old from Essex is in he live shows.

She said: "I had to deal with Simon Cowell last year. So Gary ain’t nothing but a chicken wing. I believe in Rylan.”

However Nicole will have some support on the panel, with Louis Walsh saying this week: "I would have picked him, I would definitely have picked him. Everyone is talking about him!

"He's a household name already. Not everybody is going to love you, but that's okay. You are never going to please everybody."
