X Factor UK finalist Carolynne Poole has insisted she's not "past it".
The 31-year-old singer has made the live shows of this year's competition after being rejected last year by Louis Walsh at judges' houses.
In an interview with Hello magazine, Carolynne said: "I don't have to pretend I'm down with the kids. I know I'm not Jessie J.
"But I want to bring a bit of that fun country music to X Factor. It's a pop show and I think I can bring big, epic songs and big production to it."
She added: "We've got a bit of a bad reputation as a category but we're not the over-and-outs. We're not the past-it's."
Carolynne, who previously made it through the live shows of BBC One singing contest Fame Academy back in 2001, added that she was hoping to inspire other older singers.
She said: "I'd like to do this for all the over-28s sitting at home who want to change their life but don't know where to start.
"I want to show them that 30s are the new 20s and we can be just as good as the young'uns!"
