Ella Henderson has become the new favourite to win The X Factor 2012.
A powerful bootcamp performance on Sunday night saw the 16-year-old overtake Jahmene Douglas, who struggled during the three day challenge.
Ella, the Lincolnshire singer who wowed judges with one of her own songs at boot camp, is one of six acts to make the Girls category and has been installed as the early frontrunner, as short as 9/4 with some bookmakers to take the crown.
Next in line is Jahmene Douglas, one of the contestants through to the Boys section. 21-year-old Douglas was the favourite before the last auditions at odds of 9/2 but his price has drifted out to 6/1 after a poor performance at boot camp.
There are a number of contestants that are splitting bookmaker opinion, with Carolynne Poole and Kye Sones, two acts in the Over 28s category, both available at odds as short as 7/1 and as long as 10/1. Boy band GMD3, who made it to judges’ houses following a sing-off, are in to 9/1 with some firms but also still on offer at 16/1 with Sky Bet and Betfred.
Simon Cowell broke the news to the judges regarding which category they’d be mentoring during this year’s show and Tulisa Contostavlos, who triumphed last year with the group Little Mix, was put in charge of the Girls and is the early favourite at 6/4 to lead one of her acts to glory again.
Punters have already given strong backing to a Girls winner; with Oddschecker.com reporting 44% of bets in the Winning Manager market placed on Tulisa.
Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger is second favourite at 11/4 with Ladbrokes to produce a winner from the Boys category she is mentoring, whilst Gary Barlow has the Over 28s and is 3/1 with Coral to taste glory.
Despite a Group victory last year, the category led by Louis Walsh is already considered the outsider at best odds of 13/2.
However odds don't mean everything.
Oddschecker also reveals that last year’s winners Little Mix were an astonishing 70/1 for glory before the live finals last year.
