ITV bosses are reportedly keen to have Simon Cowell back on The X Factor UK next year, with the US show in trouble.
Simon left the UK series two years ago to launch the first X Factor in the USA, but the American show has been full of problems.
The first series saw Cheryl Cole axed midway through auditions, replaced by Nicole Scherzinger who was then axed along with Paula Abdul after the first series.
The second series has seen two big signings with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, but is so far down on last year's disappointing launch numbers.
And in more bad news for Simon, the show is also being beaten by the new series of The Voice over in the states.
The UK figures have been slowly dipping since Simon and Cheryl Cole left. The new judges just don’t have chemistry.
A source told The Sun today: "There has been no talk so far of X Factor USA coming back.”
The newspaper reports that ITV are keen to persuade Simon to return to the panel for next year's series to stop a similar decline to viewing figures on this side of the Atlantic.
"The UK figures have been slowly dipping since Simon and Cheryl Cole left. The new judges just don’t have chemistry," a source told the newspaper.
They added: “Until this weekend, it was obvious Simon felt he’d outgrown the UK. But with disappointing figures in America bosses feel he may come back to Britain where he’s loved and missed.”
