X Factor's Tulisa defends chart position of new single

Tulisa (The X Factor 2012)

X Factor 2012 judge Tulusa has been forced to defend the position of her new single, after it missed the Top 10.

Tulisa's new song Live It Up charted at number 11 on Sunday, the same position as Lucy Spraggan's audition track, even though that song was only on sale for two days!

The track was also beaten by last year's X Factor stars Little Mix, with their new song Wings, and Amelia Lily, who debuted at number two with her effort You Bring Me Joy.

However Tulisa insisted that the single release was "strategic" ahead of upcoming debut solo album.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat about the chart position of the single, Tulisa said: "I said I don't know if it will even get into the top ten.

"With that single it was strategic to sell the album. I'm not trying to get a number one with this one."

The former N-Dubz star added: "I know it's urban. I know that it's probably not going to chart high. I want to show a different side to the album. For me it's a bigger picture."

Tulisa's debut solo single Young hit the top spot earlier this year, following a performance on the Britain's Got Talent live shows.

Meanwhile, speaking to MTV, Tulisa claimed her upcoming album would be "like a Tulisa iPod", with a range of different musical genres.

Tulisa is expected to release the album later this autumn, promoted with a performance on The X Factor live shows.
