X Factor boss Simon Cowell vows to take "six week break" every year

Simon Cowell (Britain's Got Talent 2012)

X Factor boss Simon Cowell has vowed to take a six week break every year, after having a stress induced 'breakdown' earlier this summer.

Speaking at the launch of The X Factor USA this week, Simon admitted he needed to take time off from his hectic work schedule to "concentrate on all the things that are important".

It's been claimed in an updated edition of Simon's biography - Sweet Revenge written by biographer Tom Bower - that Simon pulled out of filming for The X Factor USA auditions, forcing Louis Walsh to step in.

The music mogul is quoted as telling pal Louis: “I have to get back to where I was years ago. I had to stop reading texts at three in the morning and making calls later and later. I wanted peace.”

Discussing the claims at The X actor USA launch, Simon commented: “I did turn my phone off for six weeks. I had a lot going on."

He added: "I would do it again next year. Just switch off for six weeks and concentrate on all the things that are important.

"You don't get all these crazy text messages and stuff."
