X Factor boss Simon Cowell reportedly suffered from a 'secret breakdown' earlier this year.
The music mogul cut himself off from the outside world, backing out of all of his work commitments earlier in the summer.
It meant that Louis Walsh was called in to replace hm in the USA, after Simon was left bedridden for a week over "the demands of top TV executives".
According to a new chapter in Simon's unauthorised biography, Simon told Louis: “I don’t want any more tablets and pills. I’m cutting out the lot, including cigarettes.
“I desperately need peace. I’m craving normality. I’ve got to work out my demons and come out of it."
He added: “I have to get back to where I was years ago. I had to stop reading texts at three in the morning and making calls later and later. I wanted peace.”
The updated paperback version of the new Simon Cowell book also covers the launch of Britain's Got Talent earlier this year with Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
The new book Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell - is out now.
