The X Factor 2012 ratings saw a slight week-on-week climb of around 200,000 viewers.
Last year's launch show was the least watched since 2006, with an average of 8.1 million tuning in and a further 600,000 watching on ITV1+1.
Last night's second audition show was watched by an average of 8.4 million, climbing to 8.9 million with viewers on ITV1+1.
Despite the rise week-on-week the figures are still down well over a million viewers on last year's series.
The show peaked with an impressive 11 million viewers - a 46% share - as the likes of [tag]Lucy Spraggan[/tag] auditioned for the panel.
The X Factor was easily the most watched show of the day, but despite that BBC One still beat ITV1 with an all day share of 20% to ITV1's 15%.
