One Direction's Zayn Malik quits Twitter over online trolls

One Direction's Zayn Malik has deleted his online Twitter account this evening, blaming online trolls.

Despite having over a million followers and even more fans supporting him, the teenager seemingly gave up having to read the abuse from a small group of haters.

Just before removing the account, he wrote: "The Reason I don't tweet as much as I use to , is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily goodbye twitter 🙂 [sic]"

He added: "My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account [@onedirection], 🙂 x"

Some fans sided with Zayn, with one Twitter user writing: "I completely understand why Zayn deleted his twitter. Whose at fault? Catty, rude girls pointlessly hating on other fans & the boys."

But others weren't as sympathetic, with one writing: "well zayn's tweet was a big kick in the face to us all"

The hashtag "ZaynComeBack" quickly began to trend this evening as One Direction's huge fanbase campaigned for the hunky singer to return, but will he listen?

Zayn quitting Twitter follows the posting of a YouTube video this week claiming to show the One Direction star hitting on a girl in a hotel in the USA, despite dating Little Mix's Perrie Edwards.
