X Factor favourite Ella Henderson has said she feels her dead grandfather is always with her when she performs.
The teenager wowed the judges on last night's series opener with an original song about her late relative, sailing through to bootcamp.
Ella's grandfather Bill, who she credits with inspiring her to sing, passed away from lung cancer when she was eight.
"Every time I perform I always imagine him there next to me or sat in the audience watching me," Ella told the Daily Star Sunday today. “I know he is with me for every performance. He was so supportive of my singing.
“My family give me the confidence to go up on stage but my grandad gives me the inner confidence when I’m on stage singing. If he was still here he would be so, so proud. He would put his arms around my mum and dad and say ‘See, I told you it would all be worth it’. And if he was still alive I would thank him for giving me the inspiration that he did.
“He was always the happy, cheery, jokey guy.”
Ella is now the favourite to win the show, albeit after only one episode, having already attracted a big online fanbase.
The teenager, who has just finished her GCSEs, admitted she's struggled with her confidence in past.
But Ella revealed how her "lucky bracelet" from her grandfather keeps her motivated.
"Even if it is not on my wrist it is a way of keeping him with me," she said. “During my audition I wore it tucked into my shoe on the back of my heel."
