The Voice UK: Vince Kidd made Amy Winehouse's dad "proud" with Back To Black cover

Vince Kidd (The Voice UK)

The Voice UK finalist Vince Kidd has revealed that the dad of the late Amy Winehouse gave his blessing to him to perform Back To Black at the weekend.

Vince, who is good friends with Mitch Winehouse, run the song choice past him before performing the track.

"Doing Back To Black wasn’t what people were expecting but I just chose one of my favourite songs," Vince explained. “That’s one of my favourite albums and she’s my favourite artist. I’m friends with Amy’s family so I asked Mitch before I did it if it was OK and then he texted me afterwards and said he was really proud.”

The track won Vince a spot in this weekend's final, where he'll be competing for a record contract with Universal music.

Vince also revealed he checked the song choice with Amy Winehouse's former boyfriend Tyler James, also a contestant on the show.

“I’ve known Tyler for years, we’re great friends," Vince told The Sun. “He was like, ‘Amy was a fan of you anyway and if anyone could do it you could’. ”
