Deniece Pearson blames Voice UK exit on battle round song choice

Deniece Pearson (The Voice UK)

Deniece Pearson has blamed her exit from The Voice UK on Sir Tom Jones' song choice.

The Welsh legend pitched former Five Star singer Deniece against 20-year-old [tag]Ruth Brown[/tag] on a performance of Alicia Keys hit No One.

After the pair sung, Sir Tom opted to take Ruth through to the live shows, which start next weekend.

"It was chosen by Tom and it’s a great track," Deniece said today after her exit. “But I love those big Whitney Houston and Celine Dion tracks and I think I would have got into the performance a bit more if I’d had one of those.”

But despite leaving before the lives, Deniece insists she's loved her time on the show, and revealed it's led to plenty of gigs for her and Five Star, who have now reformed.

She told The People: “I want to concentrate on solo stuff but do Five Star as well. I love performing with my brothers and sisters and we have lots of gigs coming up.”

The Voice continues tonight on BBC One.
