The Voice UK singing sensation Ruth Brown has opened up about being bullied as a child.
The 20-year-old wowed on last night's battle rounds, winning a spot in next weekend's live shows.
But despite the youngster's clear talent, she's revealed how few of her peers appreciated it.
“People didn’t like me and picked on me because I liked to sing," Ruth told the Sunday Mirror today “There was a group of about 10 kids who used to intimidate me and threaten me.
“There was name calling, they hit me, ganged up on me. Because the bullying was so bad I used to go and hide in the music room at lunch time and eat and sing in there.
“The school didn’t do anything about it. My mum kept going to see them. In the end the police got involved but nothing really happened.
“It became so bad I knew that life had to get better."
She added: “I ended up having counselling and used to cry about it. But I’ve learnt I’m a lot stronger than people may think and a lot stronger than the bullies.”
Ruth will be seen competing for Sir Tom Jones from next Saturday.
