The Voice UK: Sophie Griffin wins over American Boy Will.i.am with her audition

Sophie Griffin - The Voice UK

Irish teenager Sophie Griffin bagged a place on Team Will.i.am on tonight's The Voice UK - but she failed to win the support of her idol, Danny O'Donoghue!

Before her performance, 17-year-old revealed she was a massive fan of The Script frontman and admitted to once lining up from 11am to 7pm so she could be in the front row at one of his concerts!

Only Will turned around for her take on Estelle and Kanye West's 'American Boy', but Sophie clearly held no hard feelings for Danny, gushing: "I love you! I've queued for hours to see you and now you're front row for me.

"This is crazy. I love you so much, you're amazing."

He awkwardly responded: "If the crowd could press my button it would have been pressed, but it just wasn't for me today. Thank you though."

Meanwhile, Sophie's new coach explained his decision to pick her. "I remember producing that song, and I co-wrote it with Estelle and John Legend, and you didn't sing it like Estelle, which is dope," he said.

"So I was like wow, she's a great voice, she's switching it up, and her switchup was dope."
