The singer left his work to audition for the show, taking a risk to perform The Script track The Man Who Can't Be Moved in front of the band's lead singer Danny O'Donoghue.
Despite the song choice, it was Will.i.am who turned first, with Danny following quickly after, and giving the Matt Cardle look-a-like a standing ovation.
He told David: "When I heard it I heard the same heart and emotion that was there when I wrote it. I’m here to work with people and be creative with people."
Meanwhile Sir Tom Jones said: "I didn’t press my button because I thought you were a girl and I’ve got enough girls on my team! If I had known you were a bloke I’d have pressed it"
will.i.am added:" I pressed my button because you have a butter voice, you also have room to grow and become a mega-mega artist."
David had two of the coaches to pick between, but it was rather obvious who he was going to choose: "I think I’m going to go with Danny."
