The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue only joined The Voice UK because of his sex appeal, it has been claimed today.
The line up for the ne BBC One reality series was announced last year, with Danny a surprise addition to the judging panel.
Despite reports that it'd be Pop Idol winner Will Young joining the likes of Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and Will.I.Am, the BBC confirmed it had instead hired Irish popstar Danny.
According to the Daily Mail, the BBC opted for Danny in a bid to draw in female viewers.
"The decision was not homophobic, but the panel needed a sexy “hunk” who would appeal to young female viewers," a source told the newspaper today.
They added: "It was decided that Will didn’t really fit into that category and that Danny, as a rock star, was an exciting new talent who most certainly did.’
A spokesperson for the show commented: "[Will]’s just not right for us at this time on this show.’
Did they make the right decision? Only time will tell...
The Voice UK will kick off on BBC One next month.
