ITV1 'turned down The Voice a year ago' to keep Simon Cowell happy

ITV1 reportedly turned down new music reality show The Voice down a year ago - in order to keep Simon Cowell happy when negotiating a new deal for The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. In the deal struck last autumn, the two reality megahits will continue to air on the channel until 2013.

Now ITV are interested in The Voice again, but with a bidding war with the BBC in place the price has doubled.

One insider told The Mirror: "They didn’t dare entertain the programme when they were offered it nearly a year ago because they still hoped to persuade Cowell to appear on The X Factor.”
